The Department of International and European Law of Voronezh State University was founded in 2005. The founder and the chairperson of the Department is professor, Doctor of Law Pavel N. Biriukov.

The Department trains highly qualified professionals and exploresmodern topical issues of International and European Law, development of the legal system of the Russian Federation and foreign countries.

The Department`s staff actively carries out scientific and academic work. The Department of International and European Law takes part in close international cooperation on the base of the development of bilateral and multilateral links,taking part in educational and scientific projects, international conferences, workshops and «round tables». The Department has gained scientific weight both in Russia and abroad.

The Department has close links with Russian and foreign educational institutions, closely cooperating with colleagues from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Ireland, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, etc.

The Department is the first at the Law faculty, which started the two-level educational system (Bachelor’s and Master’s programs). Nowadays the Department is the only one in Black Soil Region, whichprovides training of students within legal profilization “International law”.

The international legal specialization at the Law faculty of Voronezh State University began on1st September, 2005. The main aim of such education is training of highly qualified legal professionals with fundamental knowledge in the area of International and European law, legal systems of foreign states. Within the specialization students gain knowledge and practical skills for the following work in the state bodies the Russian Federation and foreign states, in international governmental and non-governmental organizations and bodies, in public and private companies, connected with international and external-economic activities as well as for scientific work in the field.

Students of international legal specialization take part in various international, all-Russia and regional events and conferences. The Department carries out regular meetings of scientific workshop “The International Law Readings”, devoted to the contemporary issues of International and European law, legal systems of foreign states, the application of international law in Russian legal system. The reports are prepared by the students of the Law faculty of VSU, master and post-graduate students. Anyone interested in International and European law issues can take part in these discussions.
